The Hobbit is the story of Bilbo Baggins, who is a quiet and unadventurous hobbit living in the peaceful land of the Shire. His life suddenly turns when the wizard Gandalf arrives at his door, along with thirteen dwarves led by Thorin. The dwarves are on a quest to reclaim their homeland, the Lonely Mountain, and its treasure, which is guarded by the fierce dragon Smaug.

Initially reluctant, Bilbo is convinced to join the adventure as the company’s “burglar.” They travel through endless forests, mountain tunnels, and meet various creatures. Along the way, Bilbo unexpectedly finds himself a mysterious, magical ring that grants him the power of invisibility in the cave of goblins.

  Bilbo’s courage and cleverness grow as he helps the dwarves overcome numerous challenges, from battling trolls and goblins to escaping from giant spiders. The group eventually reaches the Lonely Mountain, where Bilbo fights Smaug inside the dragon’s treasure cave. Using his braveness, he gathers information about Smaug’s weakness, which leads to the dragon’s eventual death at the hands of Bard, a skilled archer from the nearby town of Lake-town, where the dragon attacked.

With Smaug‘s death, the treasure becomes the focus of a conflict between the dwarves, the men of Lake-town, and the elves of the Woodland Realm. However, in the Battle of Five Armies, the allied force manages to defeat the goblins, which is their common enemy, though Thorin and several of his companions died.

  After the battle, Bilbo rejects his share of the treasure and returns home to his hobbit hole with only a small portion of gold. His journey transforms him from a timid, lazy hobbit into a brave hero. He gradually care less about his hobbit hole like the beginning, which is a symbolism of comfort zone. He also cares more about the friendship and process of this adventure, instead of the initial goal, the treasure. He also gain braveness along the way, indicating how breaking out of one’s comfort zone can enhance themselves and achieve a better goal.
